Trip Diary: Disneyland/LA 2018 June 25-June 28

This past summer, we traveled to California to visit Disneyland Resort and tour the area of Los Angeles. It was the perfect trip; we left June 25 and returned on July 3. We attended a LA Dodger’s game, went to a Hillsong service, did the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Hollywood, tried In-n-Out burger, and visited a beach in Malibu in about a week!

June 25:

Evening: We flew from BWI to SNA. There is a three hour time difference, so we were pretty tired when we landed. We used Priceline and picked up our rental car from Alamo. We stayed at the Anaheim Convention Center DoubleTree hotel.

June 26:

Morning: We scheduled the Fitness in Disneyland Park throughout California Adventure. We drove to the Grand Californian in time for the 6:00AM walk; this felt extra early for us because of our late flight the previous night. After arriving, we checked in for our stay until June 30. We waited by the fireplace, which is where they said the walk would begin. We waited for about 15 minutes or so, and checked with another cast member to see if we were in the right place. After double checking, they assured us we were waiting in the right place for the walk. We waited for another 15 minutes to check again because we didn’t see anyone else. One of the cast members informed us that the walk already left, and we were waiting in the wrong spot. We were a bit disappointed because we arrived 45 minutes prior to the walk start time, and we asked a few different cast members who all told us we were waiting in the right spot. In fact, the entire reason we flew in the night before was to be able to participate in the walk on this day. One of the guest relations head cast members came out, and apologized profusely. She assured us that the correct information would be relayed to all cast members so no one else would have to go through the confusion that we did. She also offered us a breakfast voucher for Goofy’s Kitchen. We ate at Goofy’s Kitchen that morning and loved it! We highly recommend this table service for breakfast; I wrote a full review with pictures in a previous blog post.

Goofy’s Kitchen Breakfast

After breakfast, we headed over to the Grand Californian around 11 AM. We walked around and rode Toy Story Midway Mania, and then headed over to Disneyland at about 1 PM.

Afternoon: Our Walk in Walt’s Disneyland Footstep’s Tour met in the front of the park. My mom loved this tour; it was nice, but it wasn’t my favorite. Most of it was the history of the park, along with a few stops for attractions. We were able to go inside Walt’s apartment, and take a picture. Our lunch was provided by the Jolly Holiday Bakery, at which point we also got souvenir pins.

After the tour, we went back to California Adventure to explore Cars Land some more and go on a few rides. The weather was beautiful the entire day, and the parks weren’t too crowded.

Evening: We returned to the Grand Californian to our room to find chocolate covered strawberries and the towel/water bottle from the Fitness in Disneyland Park as an apology for the confusion in the morning. We went to Splitsville for dinner and walked around Downtown Disney, and then settled in for the night.

June 27:

Morning/Afternoon: We headed to El Matador Beach in Malibu. It was BEAUTIFUL, and not crowded at all. We took a few pictures and hung out for a bit. In-N-Out was nearby, so we tried that for lunch. We wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and we found out! We thought for the price, it was very reasonable.

Evening: After arriving back on property, we went to California Adventure. We ate at Flo’s V8 Cafe for dinner, and were amazed by the look of Cars Land at night. We also watched the Paint the Night parade, and thought it was our favorite parade by far. It was amazing to see all of our favorite characters light up the darkness of the night. After that, we went to Downtown Disney and got a treat from Sprinkles.

June 28:

Morning/Afternoon: We started the day off in Disneyland and got breakfast from Red Rose Tavern. We met a few characters, and rode the Matterhorn Bobsleds, Jungle Cruise, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, paddled Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes, drove in Autopia, and then ate lunch at Carnation Cafe.

Evening: We rode Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, saw a few more characters, and ate ice cream while watching Mickey’s Soundsational Parade. After, we rode It’s A Small World, and met some friends in Toon Town. We went on Haunted Mansion together, ate with them at the Hungry Bear. We also tried a funnel cake from the Pixar Fest special menu, but it wasn’t very good. I ate one bite and threw it away immediately after, it was way too sweet for my liking. We had a very busy day, but it was fun! We crashed once we got back to the Grand Californian, which is super convenient because it was a short walk back!

The second half of this trip is published in another blog post, so be sure to go check that out if you would like!
