I am spending more time outside, and continue to increase the intensity of my workouts as my strength builds. My rib pain has completely disappeared. My neck and shoulders are the two areas that have been bothering me the most, but I am still off all pain medication.

Today was my third day of walking outside. The route is about 4 miles; it is very familiar, which makes pacing much easier. I also took a shower by myself for the first time. However small it may seem, this task was not easy, as I am still unable to bend, twist, and lift. I relied on my quad, shoulder, and core strength for both showering and maintaining correct posture during my walk/run.

Right after our walk in the morning, we went to get my weekly allergy shot. I took a shower in the afternoon and stretched for 45 minutes after that. I spent the entire evening catching up with various friends on FaceTime. I had a great night talking and laughing with my friends, even if it was virtual.

My run/walk was in the evening today; as always, it felt amazing mentally to push myself physically. Knowing the route makes pacing so much easier; I know when to push it and when to pull back and start walking. Focusing on my posture during both are crucial in minimizing soreness. That was the best hour of my day by far.

We had to drive to Lancaster in the morning for my mom to pick-up her belongings from her job to return to work on Monday. I chose a different route to walk today, and shortened it to 30 minutes. I love Justin and Emily Baldoni, and read a post from her about staying grounded during this time in quarantine. It inspired me, so I took my shoes off and just played outside with various pieces of sports equipment for 75 minutes.

The highlight of yesterday was spending so much time outside, so I decided to do it again. I spent 30 minutes walking, and then went barefoot and exercised in the backyard for the next 90 minutes. I also made a schedule for the next week.

I am officially 6-weeks post-op. That also means I am 5-weeks into quarantine. We started the process of redoing my bedroom today. I’ve had my current room for 10 years, so it will be really nice to decorate this one myself and turn it into my personal sanctuary. I am also trying to return to a normal sleep schedule.

I tested out the schedule I made on Thursday to see if it would work. I woke up at 6:30 a.m. and went through the schedule for the day. I spent 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. outside. I walked for 30 minutes, stopped at home, and then ran/walk for another 30 minutes. The rest of the time was spent barefoot in the backyard with various pieces of equipment: tennis racket, field hockey stick, multiple balls, and 3 lb weights.
I am excited for the upcoming weeks. I am continuing to focus on my overall health, and am eager to continue making progress.
